1. Empathize with your co worker’s

First, make the shift to meditation. I found the first few days I was doing silent meditation very debilitating. I would not leave the couch, I would go to school, eat dinner, order drinks, by the end of every day I’d be teetering on the edge of turning into a “knee guy”.
You can meditate by yourself. Before i’m making this post I always feel I need to validate myself, that i need to be visible. But, it’s true. You’ll miss activities or happiness. So when you finish meditating you’ll be ready for anything again. It’s as if the meditative approach shifts your perspective of the world.
Secondly, spend more time outside. Even if it’s only 5 minutes. Take a seat outside at a café and enjoy the beautiful breeze. Back in NYC it can be so difficult to be in the fresh air and actually enjoy it.
Of course, the hustle-bustle in NYC can make it challenging, especially when you’re a newbie. I would sometimes go for a run, which was necessary to get out of bed in the morning. You can work out in the cold or outside in the summer if you don’t mind it.
Third, pick up a guitar, or a tennis racket. You won’t have much to do except play and make music for 5–10 minutes and then go back to sitting in the couch. You can’t be productive for 10-15 minutes, which is what I was before I started practicing the arts.

Don’t be alarmed, this is normal and we shouldn’t be stressed if you forget to feed your brain food. But after a quick nap, you should be ready to do more.
After practicing mindfulness and working out your problems you don’t have any reason to be limited to these little pleasures. It’s the very thing I love most about the arts. I can’t stress how liberating it is when I go off to the studio, trying to perfect my voice, only to have the songs flow like they came out of my other self. When you are done with a performance, the thing that sets you off is nothing else but again some good music and you’re off to enjoy life again.
Journaling isn’t just a habit for artists. You can write a whole blog post in just a few pages. It’s like a continuous bath for your brain.
Once I started in meditating, I got into a routine of writing in my journal every night before bed. This really benefited my mental health, even though its very difficult, especially when you don’t want to go to a studio to record your music. (I don’t look for things to make me feel lonely). However, you don’t have to wait until the recording is done before you go for a good night’s sleep.
You’re too dependent on relationships. But what if you live in an idealistic bubble where the people closest to you are always available and ready to help? A good relationship would balance the bullshit in your head. You wouldn’t have to work out who’s right and who’s wrong.
